Differences between different pipe systems for exterior sewage


PVC pipe systems

Pipes and connecting pieces made of non-plasticized polyvinyl chloride used in street sewage systems are the basic pipe systems. These systems have been successfully used for years and fully comply with the requirements for reliable collection and draining of rainwater, household and faecal effluents and also of industrial (aggressive) effluents. These systems have numerous advantages:

  • great resistance to corrosion
  • smooth inner surface which allows for excellent
  • hydraulic capabilities and significantly reduces the formation of deposits
  • light weight allows for easier transport and
  • simpler installation
  • extremely fast and simple installation
  • minimal maintenance costs
  • pipelines are completely leak-proof

PP pipe systems

Polypropylene was first used as a material for sewage systems in the middle of the 1990s, mostly in scandinavian countries, and due to its exceptional properties it quickly spread to other countries. The main advantages of pipes made of this material are:

  • long life-span
  • simple and secure installation
  • great chemical and hydraulic properties
  • great mechanical properties (resistance to impacts at low temperatures)
  • high temperature resistance
  • high abrasion resistance (less wearing out by particles like sand etc.)

PE pipe systems

Due to increasingly aggressive substances in effluents the requirements for sewage systems are also becoming increasingly strict. The reliability and perfect sealing of pipe systems are determined by how adaptable and flexible is the material used. Polyethylene is the material of future as it excels in flexibility and great resistance to chemicals, bruising and extreme temperatures. It also has additional, important advantages:

  • because it is the lightest sewage system the handling is simple
  • due to its partial flexibility it can be adjusted during installation to adjust to any flaws in ducts
  • pipes can be laid in the field without using heavy construction machin
